03 December 2025

**The School of Communication Arts, Bangkok University—through the BU Theatre Company under the Performing Arts Department—proudly presents the stage production “Kawao Tee Bangpleng: The New Musical.” For the first time ever, the renowned literary work by M.R. Kukrit Pramoj is reimagined as a full-scale musical. The story unveils the mysteries hidden within the village of Bangpleng, shaken by supernatural phenomena and the birth of a child possessing extraordinary powers.

The production features rising young performers from the BU Theatre Company, joined by powerhouse diva Lukwa Pijika, enhanced with orchestral music and cutting-edge theatrical techniques that bring spectacular, magical scenes to life on the stage of Muangthai Rachadalai Theatre.

This milestone production marks a new chapter in reinterpreting a Thai classic through the creative lens of a new generation—reflecting the essence of Thainess in a modern context with seamless artistic fusion. Officially licensed by M.L. Visumitra Pramoj, the musical is the result of a significant collaboration among government, private, and academic sectors, including the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (Ministry of Culture), Scenario Co., Ltd., PM Center, and Panasonic. Together, they share a unified mission to strengthen Thailand’s Soft Power and creative economy. Performances run from 20–25 December 2025 at Muangthai Rachadalai Theatre, with a special Gala Performance on 23 December 2025.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Phansak Sukhee, Head of the Performing Arts Department, notes: “The uniqueness of Kawao Tee Bangpleng extends beyond its captivating narrative. This production merges performing arts with contemporary creative media, offering a modern reinterpretation that explores themes of alienation and difference—between Buddhism, science, love, and compassion. It invites younger generations to rediscover the true value of humanity while elevating Thailand’s Soft Power and creative economy to greater national and international recognition.”

Kawao Tee Bangpleng: The New Musical—an original musical by the BU Theatre Company—represents more than just a stage production. It is a platform for learning, inspiration, and cultural empowerment. It invites young audiences to become part of a creative force that sustains and advances Thai culture. This reimagined classic opens new perspectives on Thai Soft Power by harmoniously blending art and society.

The musical will be staged from 20–25 December 2025 at Muangthai Rachadalai Theatre, totaling seven performances. Tickets priced at 800 / 1,000 / 1,200 / 1,500 THB are now available at ThaiTicketMajor.
